Strategic Conquest
Perhaps you remember the classic strategy-war game for the early Apple Macintosh called Strategic Conquest. The game of Strategic Conquest was played on a grid-style map consisting of islands and water. Scattered across the islands were cities capable of producing various military units. Inland cities could produce armies, fighters, and bombers. Port cities could additionally produce transports, destroyers, submarines, aircraft carriers, and battleships.
The object of Strategic Conquest was to conquer the entire map by capturing all, or nearly all, the cities. Armies were the only units capable of capturing cities. Once a city belonged to you, not only would that count toward your eventual goal of world domination, but you were able to control the city's production. More powerful units took more time to produce. Because the original versions of Strategic Conquest on the Mac were turn based, time was measured in the number of turns it took to make the military unit.
Strategic Conquest was easily one of the most popular games ever written for the early Macintosh computers. It ran on as little as a Mac 512 or a Mac Plus and was upgraded many times and computer technology improved. The second major release of Strategic Conquest added a two-player mode, playable in hot seat style on a single computer or using AppleTalk with two networked computers. The armies of the original version were also dropped and replaced with tanks.
Newer versions also added support for color monitors and slightly improved graphics. Official support for the game eventually died off along with so many other Macintosh software companies that went out of business in the early 1990's. Until the release of Strategic Domination, there was no multiplayer version, no time based version, and no web based version.
Strategic Domination is essentially a modern version of Strategic Conquest. It is entirely web based and requires no downloads. It's fully cross-platform compatible so you can play it on a Macintosh, Windows, Linux or anything else. Strategic Domination also offers new multiplayer features, such as the ability to form alliances and share world maps. To play, just make an account on www.StrategicDomination.com and join an open game room.
